History
A brief history
Baker Book House was founded in 1939 by Herman Baker, a Dutch immigrant who opened a used-theology bookstore on Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan; it is still family-owned.1 The house grew partly by acquisition — taking on the Fleming H. Revell Company (founded 1870 by the evangelist D. L. Moody's brother-in-law) in 1992, and later bringing Bethany House Publishers and the new Brazos Press under its umbrella.2 It bought Lexham Press from Logos on 23 September 2025, adding that press’s reference and theology list to its own while Logos kept the right to carry those titles inside its software.3 Its scholarly imprint, Baker Academic, anchors its theology and biblical-studies list.
