A brief history

Baker Book House was founded in 1939 by Herman Baker, a Dutch immigrant who opened a used-theology bookstore on Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan; it is still family-owned.¹ The house grew partly by acquisition — taking on the Fleming H. Revell Company (founded 1870 by the evangelist D. L. Moody's brother-in-law) in 1992, and later bringing Bethany House Publishers and the new Brazos Press under its umbrella.² Its scholarly imprint, Baker Academic, anchors its theology and biblical-studies list.
