The New Park Street Pulpit and The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit

The original issue of Spurgeon's sermons, printed by Passmore & Alabaster from a weekly sermon begun in 1855 and gathered into an annual volume each year. Volumes 1-6 appeared as The New Park Street Pulpit (1855-60); from 1861, when the congregation moved into the Metropolitan Tabernacle, the remaining fifty-seven came out as The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit (1861-1917). Volume n covers the year 1854 + n throughout, without a break. Twenty-six of the volumes are posthumous: Spurgeon died on 31 January 1892 and the firm went on publishing from his unpublished stock until the series closed on 10 May 1917. Some 3,561 sermons over 3,241 consecutive weeks.¹ Every reprint of the set descends from this printing: Pilgrim Publications reproduced it photographically in 1969-80, Reformation Heritage's current volumes are photographed from Pilgrim rather than from here, and A Pilgrim's Coffer's project of 2024 is the first time anyone has reset the type. All three are catalogued separately.
