The Pillar New Testament Commentary

The New Testament · est. 1991 · Volumes issued from 1991; published jointly by Eerdmans and Apollos

A New Testament commentary series pitched between the technical and the pastoral: it works from the Greek but builds its exposition on an English text, so that a reader without the language can still follow the argument. Each volume opens with a full introduction on authorship, style and setting, then proceeds passage by passage, with an eye to biblical theology and to what the text asks of the church now.1 D. A. Carson has been general editor since the series began in 1991, with Benjamin L. Gladd joining him in 2025.2 It is published on both sides of the Atlantic — by Eerdmans in Grand Rapids and by Apollos, the academic imprint of the British Inter-Varsity Press — so a given volume exists under two ISBNs; this catalogue records whichever printing a copy actually is.
