History
A brief history
Two lineages meet in this imprint. John Wiley & Sons goes back to a printing shop opened in lower Manhattan in 1807 by the 25-year-old Charles Wiley, passing to his son John on his death in 1826.1 Blackwell Publishing was the Oxford house formed in 2000 from Blackwell Publishers, founded 1922, and Blackwell Science, founded 1939, both descended from the Blackwell family's Broad Street bookshop.2 Wiley agreed to buy Blackwell in November 2006 and completed the purchase in February 2007 for £572 million, merging it with its own scientific and academic business as Wiley-Blackwell.2 Books in this catalogue printed before 2007 accordingly carry a Blackwell imprint and those after it Wiley-Blackwell, with no change of editorial line between them.
