U. Hunt

Uriah Hunt was a Philadelphia bookseller and publisher, at work from at least the early 1830s — which is to say, at the moment the city was surrendering its long dominance of the American book trade to New York.¹ He published religious works and standard English literature, and the firm later traded as Uriah Hunt and Son. The set catalogued here is his edition of The Works of the Rev. John Newton, first issued at Philadelphia in 1831 and reprinted in 1839,² the printing that Banner of Truth's modern set names as its source.³ Hunt himself is thinly documented: no source consulted supplies a founding date, a shop address, or any biography.
