History
A brief history
The Tyndale Press was the imprint under which the Inter-Varsity Fellowship in London published its more scholarly work in the middle of the 20th century — most visibly the Tyndale Old and New Testament Commentaries, which began appearing in the 1960s and did much to bring evangelical exegesis into the mainstream of theological education.1 The name came from the Fellowship's research arm, Tyndale House in Cambridge, a library for evangelical biblical research founded in 1944 and still running as an independent charity, and from the Tyndale Fellowship of scholars gathered around it.1 The imprint was afterwards absorbed into Inter-Varsity Press, which continues the Tyndale commentaries under its own name.2 It is unrelated to the American house Tyndale House Publishers, whose name comes from the same translator but nothing else.2
