The Gospel Coalition

The Gospel Coalition began in the middle of the 2000s as a colloquium of pastors convened by the New Testament scholar D. A. Carson and the Manhattan pastor Tim Keller. Accounts differ on the year: the two began the conversation in about 2004, the first council met at their invitation in 2005, and the coalition adopted its foundation documents and launched publicly in 2007.¹² It is governed by a council of some forty pastors and theologians, and it took over Themelios - a theological journal begun in 1975 - as a digital publication in 2008; Julius Kim became its first president in 2020, Sandy Willson served as interim from 2023, and Mark Vroegop was chosen in 2025.¹ Most books by its writers are published by Crossway; a smaller number appear under TGC's own ISBN prefix from an address in Austin, Texas, and it is one of these - Ivan Mesa's essay collection Before You Lose Your Faith - that this catalogue holds.³⁴ No source consulted gives the year TGC began publishing under its own imprint.
