History
A brief history
The firm Charles Rivington founded in London in 1711 was for nearly two centuries a leading publisher to the Church of England and long the booksellers to the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge.1 Styled at various times J. G. & F. Rivington and F. & J. Rivington, the house was the London co-publisher of the Library of the Fathers from 1838, its imprint standing beside John Henry Parker’s Oxford one on the title pages.2 The business was absorbed by Longman in 1890.
