History

A brief history

Founded by Don Kistler, who had earlier founded Soli Deo Gloria in 1984 (catalogued separately here) and edited its titles until it passed to Ligonier and then Reformation Heritage Books.¹ The press began, by its own account, in Kistler's habit of reading Puritan manuscripts devotionally, and exists to republish doctrinally rich works in durable editions: every volume is re-typeset and lightly modernized for clarity, then bound Smyth-sewn on archival paper.² Kistler has now edited over 350 Puritan titles across both houses, and a number of works he first issued under Soli Deo Gloria — among them Christopher Love's Grace, John Preston's The Golden Scepter, Thomas Watson's Heaven Taken by Storm, and his own Jonathan Edwards, Evangelist — have since been reissued under the Northampton imprint; both printings are catalogued here and linked as editions of the same work. The press is a division of Don Kistler Ministries, Inc., and works out of a post-office box at Orlando, Florida — an imprint statement that appears on the copyright pages of its books and, for the place, in Library of Congress cataloguing.³ No founding year is stated on the press's own site or in any source checked, though Open Library shows Northampton titles as far back as 2007.
