History
A brief history
D. L. Moody founded the Bible Institute Colportage Association in 1894, eight years after founding the Moody Bible Institute itself, because he judged that good Christian books cost more than most Christians could pay.12 The first title was Spurgeon's All of Grace, sold for ten cents by colporteurs - many of them Institute students - working on commission from horseback and horse-drawn wagons; by Moody's death in 1899 the Colportage Library ran to more than eighty titles.1 The house took the name Moody Publishers in 1941 and still belongs to the Institute, its profits going back into it.12 The Spurgeon connection matters for this catalogue, which holds a great deal of Spurgeon under other imprints; what it holds from Moody is Corbett and Fikkert's When Helping Hurts.
