James Parker & Co.

James Parker & Co. was the successor firm to John Henry Parker, the Oxford publisher of the Library of the Fathers — the Tractarian translation series begun by Pusey, Keble, and Newman in 1838.¹ When Philip Schaff and Henry Wace brought out the second series of the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers between 1890 and 1900, Parker issued it in Oxford alongside the Christian Literature Company in New York, and the title pages carry both imprints.² That gave the American series a direct institutional line back to the Oxford Movement translations it revised.
