History
A brief history
The Calvin Translation Society was founded in Edinburgh in 1843 to give the English-speaking church a complete and faithful translation of John Calvin.1 Between 1844 and 1856 it issued forty-five volumes of biblical commentaries, three volumes of Tracts, and Henry Beveridge's three-volume translation of the Institutes — fifty-one volumes in all. The set became the standard English Calvin and was later reprinted in America by Eerdmans and, in condensed form, by Baker.2
